Little bunny Foo Foo.

I loved this kitchen mat...and yes, it is!
The kids and I picked up our first three bunnies today...I say first three because "bunny math" is every bit as bad as "chicken math" LOL....I already have my eye on 3 from another breed.

We got 1 little buck and 2 unrelated does, they are pedigreed Silver Fox rabbits and are 8 weeks old. Rabbits grow so fast, I didn't think they would be this big already...their parents adult weights were around 10 lbs. They make an excellent meat rabbit, and their pelt is amazing. We plan to breed these for meat, pelt and pet.

These are the two doe bunnies, Fire Star is a black Silver Fox, and Kitty is a blue Silver Fox.
Hayden checking out Batman our buck. Our chickens got Disney names, seems the rabbits will follow the super hero theme LOL.
They don't love these bunnies at all.

Their home for a while...we need to work out more permanent bunny accommodations on the farm.

While the bunnies settled in a little the neighbor kids came over and spent hours playing.

Jericho, otherwise known as Tarzan.

I tried to get a few better pics of the new critters once they settled in a bit. Kitty Pryde...AKA Shadowcat, she is so pretty...I like that we will get both black and blue babies in our litters. You can see she is starting to get some of her silvering...can't wait to see how silver she goes.
Some info about the breed....
"The Silver Fox rabbit is the third breed developed in the United States. It was created by Walter B. Garland of North Canton, Ohio. The Silver Fox is truly a multi-purpose breed, raised for meat and fur. The breed was recognized and a standard approved in 1925 under the name American Heavyweight Silver. In 1929 the name was changed to the American Silver Fox and later to Silver Fox. The breed has always been recognized in two varieties - blue and black. During the 1970s, however, the blues were dropped from the American Rabbit Breeders Association standards due to lack of numbers being shown."
Breeders are working on getting the blues accepted again. Over all the Silver Fox breed is a wonderful Heritage breed that is considered threatened. I am so glad to be working with these guys.

Kitty's sister, Fire Star.

Batman, the buck, he is also getting some silvering...a couple more weeks and he should be a lot more silver.

So handsome!

Fire Star again...look at all those little silver hairs coming in, by 4 months these babies will be as silver as they are going to get. The Silver Fox breed has a really cool pelt. They are the only breed when the hair is brushed the wrong way it actually stays that way until it is brushed back down. This trait is found in no other breed and greatly resembles the pelt of the silver fox of the Arctic.

Winter is coming little flower.

Kitsune has very much enjoyed the extra kids today...lots of ball throwing going on. Playing with toys = a very happy Dutchie.

They even played a little keep away...and managed to not get bit by an overly excited Kitsune.
