Ah crap...it starts.

So before I get to the "Ah crap" part...I snapped this cuteness last night. I snuck in to check on the boys before I went to bed and found my little wild man like this. It was too adorable so I had to go run and grab my camera. He loves his Shrek :)

OK, now for the Ah crap...the girls Dentist appointment did not go great. They did wonderful, totally cooperated, no freak outs...so much different from when they were 3 LOL. Hayden and Lily got side by side chairs...that makes it easy to be in two places at once.
They both have some issues going on...that are not going to be cheap fixes. And we are not even talking braces....yet.

Lily has two small between the molars "plaque cavities" like Xander does. Gotta do better, well any, flossing...especially when your kids teeth don't have bigger gaps. Thank goodness we don't allow them to have soda ever, or much sugar and junk...I can't imagine how bad it could be if they had that crap. The real problems though are a whole lot more tricky.

Miss Haddie has a crossbite. The Dentist wants to fit her with something that she will wear for at least 6 months to try and correct it now. It can, and probably will, get worse with age if we do nothing. We are lucky to have some dental coverage, but it is not much and this will cost at least $800 after insurance...yikes.

Then there is our night time thumb sucker Lily...she is causing some pretty bad damage with her sleep sucking. We need to get her to stop sucking her thumb NOW in hopes of things self correcting as her upper adult teeth come in. They probably won't fix everything, we are probably looking at braces and a palate expander down the road. Right now they want $1,100 from us...after insurance, to wire her up with an anti thumb sucking device. We bought a couple "Thumbusters" for $13 each, to try for a couple months first...man I hope that works, I really don't want to have to put a scary looking contraption in her mouth. Please send us all the 'cease thumb sucking' vibes you can!

If this is a preview of the teeth chronicles in our future, I am seriously scared.

A little tiny bit of retail therapy. The girls and I had a nice quick trip to Target.

My new brother in law, Dr. Tobler, DDS...oh I think having a Dentist in the family may come in handy, asked for some pics of Hayden's bite. I am so surprised I never noticed anything wonky with her bite before, guess I just never looked and paid attention before.
Tonight's dinner was another new one from Skinny Taste. It was pretty good! Slow cooker sweet barbacoa pork.

Ingredients:

For the Marinade:
2.5 lbs pork loin roast, all fat trimmed
salt and pepper
garlic powder
6 oz Coke zero
1/4 cup brown sugar (unpacked)
1/4 cup water

Step 2
8 oz Coke zero
6 oz can sliced green chilies
8 oz tomato sauce
1 chipotle chile in adobo sauce
1/8 tsp garlic powder
1/8 tsp cumin
1/8 tsp chipotle chili powder (to taste)
salt and pepper to taste
1/3 cup brown sugar (unpacked)

Directions:
Season pork with salt, pepper and garlic powder and place in the crock pot.
Add 6 oz of coke and 1/4 cup of brown sugar.
Marinate refrigerated for a few hours or overnight turning meat at least once while marinating.

Remove crock from refrigerator, add water, and cook on high for about 3-4 hours (or until it shreds easily).
Remove pork from crock pot and discard any liquid left in the pot.
Shred pork with two forks.

Step two:
In the crock pot, combine 8 oz coke, green chilies, tomato sauce, chipotle chile, garlic powder, cumin, chipotle chili powder and remaining brown sugar.
Put shredded pork back in the crock pot and combine with sauce.
Adjust salt and pepper to taste, cover and cook on high 1-1/2 hours more.
3 oz is 203 cals and 6 1/2 grams of fat.
I loved mine on a bed of baby spinach, with a little fat free refried beans, some reduced fat cheese, fat free sour cream and tabascie. Scrumptious!
The ratties are all of a sudden pretty interesting to Gangster...Xander loves taking photos, he is getting better I think :)
Silly dog.
We thought we would try out those S'mores in a jar treats that we gave out to our neighbors...recipe here.
Despite Jason making it in the wrong size dish, it was still tasty.
We will have to try it again in the correct dish so it comes out perfect. It was really rich...I would love it with some frozen yogurt or ice cream.

The kids seem very on board with stepping up our dental care...here is to a lot more flossing in this house.
