Making dress up dresses with Grandma.

Grandma was off having tons of fun in sunny Florida last week. She came by today and surprised the kiddos with some fun gifts. Some great seashells, and a Tinkerbell picture holder for the girls.

She got the boys a real Alligator head, kinda icky and kinda sad, but the girls were very into it. Funny enough both boys were kinda freaked out by it LOL.

Grandma also had two old prom dresses she found at a thrift store and a bunch of beads and ribbon and other stuff to make the girls new dress up dresses. While we got a start on the dress making, Xander got to spend an hour on the Kindle. Little Mr. Attitude has been grounded from it for a week. Too bad he didn't totally learn his lesson about not whining and screaming when his hour is up for the day, I fear another week of being grounded from it is in his very near future. I try to give him a little leash because his is still very emotionally immature and it seems he screams and loses it over almost everything that doesn't go his way.

First fitting. Grandma was good enough the get a purple dress for Lily and a pink on for Haddie.

This was a learning opportunity too...Grandma needs to keep giving these lesson, the kiddos are sure not going to learn how to sew from me LOL. I would like to get a little sewing machine and try some simple stuff though...it can't be THAT hard, right? LOL.

Nice job Bug!

All the decorative stuff Grandma brought over for the girls to pick from to design their dresses. This is the fun part :)

Hayden's turn.

Lily and I got busy with designing her dress.

She picked so much stuff to adorn her Princess dress with...poor Grandma, long day of sewing today.

Nice sewing Haddie...she loved this.

When Xander's hour was up, and the Kindle booted him off...love that, he came over to help too.

Lily's is all done. It turned out so cute...what a great idea Grandma!

Hayden trying to keep Jericho away from her dress LOL. I like it :)

Can't keep the wild man down long.

Both dresses done...looking good girls!

Great job Grandma, the dress transformation was amazing...love them!
Xan was feeling a little left out, so Jason donated an old...and now much too big!! shirt. Grandma, with Xander's help and eye for bling, took it in as much as she could and turned it into a one of a kind garment LOL.

Now we have a happy Xander.

Whew...5 hours of sewing, that was a marathon.

The girls showed Grandma their magazines from Auntie Stacie while we waited for dinner.

We had my new fave "Skinny" Coconut chicken salad...and I whipped up "Skinny" dessert we haven't tried yet. Apple cranberry crumble.

Ingredients:

 For the filling:
3 cups (about 4) peeled gala apples, sliced
1 cup fresh cranberries (this was too much for me...no one else seemed to mind, but I am not a huge fan of cranberries)
1 tbsp flour or cornstarch
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2/3 cup honey or pure maple syrup
cooking spray

 For the topping:
3/4 cup dry quick-cooking oats
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1 tbsp all-purpose flour
3 tbsp whipped butter, melted
1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
1/2 tsp salt

 Directions:
Preheat oven to 325°F. Lightly spray a 9-inch square baking dish with cooking spray.
Combine apples, cranberries along with the rest of the filling ingredients in a bowl.
Pour into baking dish and even out with a spoon.
In another bowl, combine the topping ingredients; sprinkle over apple/cranberry mixture.
Bake uncovered, for 55-60 minutes or until browned and bubbly. Serve warm.
